Holiday Wish List from Celebrity Stylist Jeni Elizabeth

Everyone has a holiday wish list. Everyone has a certain something that they are hoping to open up around the holiday time from a person in their life. Most of these people are women. Women that are not only compiling a wish list year around in their heads, but also actually get disappointed when they do not get at least 80% of that wish list. I say this because I am one of these women.  Throughout the duration of the year I am guilty of compiling what I call the “Jeni Christmas Catalog” of items I would absolutely love to have on Christmas morning.  I feel like there are certain items every woman should have on their wish list this year. Certain trends or fun products that no woman should live without! Some expensive and some very attainable, but all absolutely having the ability to make a woman feel fabulous every day. 

My first and favorite would have to be the well-known Faux Fur Animal Hat! I swear I am obsessed. From the moment I received one myself to even seeing it on notable celebs I thought it was the happiest way to be cold! These hats not only bring a smile to adults and children, but they are also completely affordable! You can obtain a fun furry hat for as low as $14.99-$79.00. I say if you are going to wear a winter hat do it in style! Absolutely on my wish list for this winter!

This winter is heading to be one of the coldest and wettest holiday seasons of all. For those of us with a commute to and from work, our winter attire and staying warm is very important to us. For me I always worry when I get bundled up that I look like a worker in the North Pole! I get very excited when I can find items such as the Hunter Boot, otherwise knows as Wellies! Not only do they come in amazing colors and flatter my calves, but they are also completely affordable and are not just for winter, but also can be worn year around on those crazy rainy days! I think the Wellie boot should absolutely be on every woman’s wish list in her favorite signature color!

Black leather leggings should be in every woman’s wardrobe! These leggings are not just for women with legs that reach the sky! Leggings are fun and sexy and every woman no matter how tall they are have the right to wear something that make them feel sexy! Lets be honest, I dress everyday in what makes me happy, and I dress for men to feel sexy, not for a woman’s approval. With that said throwing on a pair of leather leggings changes my whole day. They can be paired with a black fitted tee and little ballerina slippers for a casual yet sexy day. They can be worn with tall black boots, flat or heeled for that extra splash of fun! They are actually very warm and very comfortable at the same time. Black leggings have several functions that are not just winter inspired and again are a wonder addition to your wardrobe! They are affordable and can be found everywhere from Nordstrom’s to Alice and Olivia. I LOVE them!

One of my favorite parts of being on the road is packing my cosmetic case. Working at Henri Bendel for so long I had the luxury of obtaining all of their amazing cosmetic cases that I am very simply obsessed with! Knowing that Henri Bendel is such an iconic part of fashion in NYC it makes me smile to be all over the country and have a piece of that with me at all times! For this reason I would encourage every woman to add the Henri Bendel Cosmetic set to her wish list this season. Cosmetics can be a very important part of a woman’s day and they deserve to travel in style as well!!!

I had the pleasure of recently interviewing Celebrity Stylist, Commentator and Red Carpet Host, Colin T. McDonald.                                                                                                                                                                                

Colin began working in the fashion industry in 2003 and as you'll see from his interview, he took something positive from a background of being bullied and has become quite the success story. From working with Oprah Winfrey to dancing with Michelle Obama, Colin has been among some of the top influential people in the world.                                                                                                                                                                                

He has worked for such pretigious names as Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Simon Carter, L'Oreal, Harper's Bazaar, Numero, Hombre, Venus Zine, Culture, Fantastics, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Basketball Wives, NBC, SONY Music, Obama White House, Mary Alice Stephenson, Ann Caruso, and Patti Wilson, as well as major retailers like Bloomingdale's.                                                                                              

Along with styling, Colin is a featured commentator and red carpet host for a variety of media. He's a regular commentator for Tyra Bank's website, Hercampus.com which is part of SELF Magazine and  ivillage.com which is part of NBC. On the red carpet he's interviewed celebrities such as Jennifer Hudson, Kim Kardashian, and Avril Lavigne.                                                                                                                                                                                                        

 Also, along with styling, commentating, and red carpet hosting, he's also a style consultant for up-and-coming designers like Patricia Brown.                                                                                                                                   

This is one person I say we should keep our eye on. Colin has accomplished so much in such a short time but I don't think you've seen the last of him. He's well on his way to so much more in the world of fashion.

Colin, let me start off by saying, I love your website and I promise it has nothing to do with the two beautiful men that are staring back at me when I first upload your site.  ;) 

You've accomplished so much in such a short time,what inspired your interest in the fashion world?  I actually didn't get involved into fashion like most people would think, "It's glamourous and a fun job."  It actually stems back to my childhood and growing up.  I was teased alot in school and always felt like an outcast.  Clothing was a way for me to really express who I was and gave me the gift of confidence I needed to get through the day, week, month, year, etc.   It was like my armor and it really has helped me be who I am today.  That's why in my opinion clothing, fashion and style is truly powerful.  It can change people's lives and the way they think of themselves.   

 

 There's got to be a place or something that ignites the fire within you. What gets those creative juices flowing? I'm a VERY visual person and my eyes are really the windows to my creativity.  It can be anything from an image I come across while browsing the internet, to someone in the street, to the simple progression of nature.  Once I feel it in my gut and know it, I MUST somehow incorporate it into my current projects.  

 

What has been your favorite project to work on? Some of my favorite projects would have to be with my mentor Mary Alice Stephenson.  A powerhouse to the world of styling!  I've actually been fortunate enough to have been able to work alongside her on huge projects for The Oprah Winfrey Show, and an exclusive spread at The White House with Michelle Obama for Harper's Bazaar November 2010 Issue.  Getting the Oprah Winfrey shake from the queen of daytime talk herself and dancing with Michelle in the red room are moments I will never forget till the day I die.

 

What should be in all of our closets this summer? What's the MUST-HAVE this season? Every woman MUST-HAVE have some type of bold color in their wardrobe this season!  We'll be seeing a lot of white and a pop of color in the accessories department will do just the trick.  I specifically love up-and-coming jewelry designer Patricia Brown's Coral Branches Necklace.  Available at Patriciabrown.com .  A piece that will even flow beautifully into your fall wardrobe!

 

After a long day of styling others, you must take care of yourself. What spa/salon service can you not live without and where do you go to get this service done? For me relaxation is getting out of the city and being with my family.  Most importantly, my niece and nephews.  They keep me balanced and in touch with what life is really about.  The small things!  

 

What is your definition of Beauty? It's what's inside that counts!  True beauty comes from within.  I don't care how good you look, if you have an attitude, your attractiveness instantly melts away.  

 

Any final words?  Never give up on what it is that really makes you happy in life.  I don't care how many people say no to you, you keep trying and eventually someone will listen.  Take it from a boy who grew up in a small town in upstate New York and knew no one in the industry when I started.  Now I'm rubbing elbows and working with some of the most influential people in fashion today.

About My 1st Suit

My 1st Suit was founded on a straight forward principle — to change the lives of young men. The overall mission of My 1st Suit is to create awareness about young adults’ self-esteem and how it contributes to their daily lives. A huge part of the focus is young menages 18-26 who live in disadvantaged socio-economic areas. My 1st Suit will partner with men’s clothing companies and boutiques in order to outfit 15 young men annuallyin their first suit. All of the young men in the program will participate in a five-weekendintensive that will include courses on sharpening business skills and character building.
